When I got to the unit it was in its
beginning. Some came from Prum others from Kassel to make up what was
known as Det 300 Neu Ulm of 601st Tactical Control Squadron. We
were in one of the "dog kennels" of the Army for 2 months until they
moved us across town to the barracks I was in.. That area housed the
Army Language school, an Army signal unit, and the area MP unit.. I
started out as cook and in an Army Mess Hall. We shortly took it over
and I became the Mess Sgt. We fed the school, the Army Boxing team, the
signal unit, an Army Motor Pool, and our 232 men.. I was there until
Jan 66 when I returned to Keesler AFB MS to retrain into 304X0..(Tropo
Radio) I also held 304X1 and 304X4.. serving on two IG teams.
